As of the 7th November 2023, voters in Ohio have began lighting one up in celebration of recreational cannabis use being legalised in the state after a issue 2 ballot was passed.
The state’s vote to legalise cannabis comes following several reforms. Laws were changed in 2016 that made medicinal cannabis use legal and in edition to that, 38 Ohio cities have already decriminalized the possession of up to seven ounces.
The new law will become effective in just under a months time and will now allow adults aged 21 and over to be in possession of up to two and half ounces of cannabis and fifteen grams of concentrate.
Cannabis users in Ohio will also be able to enjoy growing up to six plants at home, with a maximum of twelve plants per house hold.
The state will also create a new Division of Cannabis Control within the Ohio Department of Commerce to oversee the nascent industry.
The state’s one hundred and thirty existing medical marijuana dispensaries also now have the green light to sell to recreational customers and expecting a huge increase in trade. Furthermore, the state will license forty new cultivators and fifty new retailers. The Division of Cannabis Control can issue more licenses two years after they approve this first batch.
