Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu (born 2 July 1991), better known by his stage name Burna Boy, is a Nigerian dancehall/reggae singer and songwriter. He was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He performs afro-fusion, dancehall, and reggae music.
He has in recent days revealed that he once turned down a $5 million offer to perform a show in Dubai. During one of Burna Boy’s recent shows, he sung lyrics detailing the opportunity for him to make several figures with his talents. However, he has revealed that he ultimately turned down the offer due to the stipulation surrounding not being able to smoke cannabis during his visit to Dubai.
In a clip obtained by No Jumper, Burna Boy can be seen in the middle of a performance, as the vocalist professes his affinity for marijuana while crooning about his incessant usage of the plant. The international star’s views have received a mixed reception, with some praising his choice to stick to his guns and buck the Middle Eastern country’s position. Others have attributed Burna Boy’s decision to an addiction to cannabis, arguing that it was a bad decision to turn down such a significant offer to go and perform there.
With British born rapper Fredo having been reportedly arrested and imprisoned for possession of cannabis in Dubai recently, Burna Boy is certainly sensible for taking their laws surrounding its use their seriously. Even if it has meant turning down a gig there, all in the name of Cannabis!
